Blinn had a hard time getting any offense going in the first game and could only muster six hits in a 5-1 loss to Alvin to open the doubleheader.

Anthony Jones had the lone RBI for the Buccaneers on a single. Jay Anderson had a pair of singles in the loss.

Blinn was the first on the scoreboard in the third inning as Tyler Fowler started it off with a single and then later scored on a RBI single down the left field line by Jones for a 1-0 lead. That would be the final run scored by the Buccaneers as Alvin scored five in the fifth to take a 5-1 victory.

Home runs by De La Fuente and Murphy supplied the offense and Moos pitched into the seventh inning to lead Blinn to a 7-3 victory in the final game of the doubleheader.

De La Fuente blasted a three-run home run while Murphy’s home run brought in two runs. Marshall Skinner and Fowler had the other two RBIs in the win.

Moos pitched 6 2-3 innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits while striking out three to get the win. Kyle Gray came on to pitch the final two scoreless innings to pick up a save while striking out a pair.

Blinn got on the scoreboard first in the third inning as Skinner started it off with a walk and then Fowler doubled down the line in left to give Blinn a 1-0 lead. De La Fuente helped to pad the lead in the fifth as he blasted a three-run home run to left to give the Buccaneers a 4-0 lead.

Skinner helped Blinn pad the lead in the sixth inning. Johnny Rizer started the inning with a single and then Skinner followed with an RBI single to center for a 5-0 Blinn lead. Alvin did cut into the lead in the seventh with three runs to get within 5-3.

That would be the final runs scored by Alvin as Murphy helped to pad the Blinn lead in the eighth with a two-run home run to left-center for a 7-3 lead that would hold up until the final out.

Blinn will next face San Jacinto College-North on Thursday, April 27 for a doubleheader at home beginning at 4 p.m.

Before the game, former Blinn baseball coach Leroy Dreyer was honored for his induction into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Many of Dreyer’s family, friends and former players came out to watch the former coach throw the first pitch.
