Six Buccaneer softball players receive postseason recognition

Freshman Delilah Pacheco and sophomore Peyton Webb headlined the Blinn softball team’s All-Region XIV Conference team and All-Region XIV South Zone Conference selections.

Pacheco and Webb were named first-team all-region after leading the Buccaneers to a 29-15 season and a trip to the Region XIV Conference Tournament.  Five Bucs received an all-region nod, while six were named to the all-conference South Zone team.

As the Bucs’ leadoff batter, Pacheco batted .372 this season with a .431 on-base percentage and a team-best 61 hits and 20 stolen bases. In 164 at-bats, the shortstop from Corpus Christi only struck out twice.

 

Peyton Webb

Webb provided a power bat in the lineup. Batting in the three spot, Webb drove in 43 runs, had 22 extra-base hits—five home runs—and had a .572 slugging percentage. Webb also received first-team all-region and first-team all-conference honors as a freshman.

Wellmann gave the Blinn offense another dangerous bat in its lineup. Batting in the clean-up spot, the first baseman from Brenham drove in a team-high 53 runs and cranked 10 home runs on her way to batting at a .358 clip on the season. Wellmann had 54 hits on the season, 22 for extra bases.

Rawls was recognized for her work in the pitching circle. In her first season with the team, she tossed 184 2-3 innings, allowing 183 hits, 64 earned runs and striking out 93 (3.5 strikeouts per game). Her 2.43 earned run average led the team as she finished with a 16-13 record.

Freshman Alli Spivey was awarded for her work in center field. In addition to her .953 fielding percentage, Spivey provided a lot of speed in the No. 2 spot in the lineup, where she had a .363 on-base percentage and stole 13 bags. Spivey had 44 hits, walked 13 times and scored 33 runs.

In her first collegiate season, Gibson tossed 129 2-3 innings, compiling a 13-5 record and a 2.97 ERA in 26 starts. She averaged more than four strikeouts a game, allowed 131 hits and allowed just 55 earned runs.

Note:  Former Brenham Cubette pitcher Bridget Stein, a freshman at San Jac, was named second team All-Region and second team All-South Zone.
