Kendall Sheffield, a cornerback from Missouri City, has transferred to the Buccaneers from Alabama where he red-shirted last season.

According to ESPN and 24/7 Sports, Sheffield will spend the 2016 season with the Buccaneers then transfer back to the Division-1 level, where he will have three more years of eligibility.

According to Buccaneer head coach Ryan Mahon, Sheffield will be joining the team, on campus Saturday.

Sheffield was the No. 3-ranked cornerback in the nation in the signing class of 2015, out of Fort Bend Marshall in Missouri City.

He was the No. 20 overall prospect in the nation, and the No. 3 overall recruit in the state of Texas.

After sitting out last season, Sheffield becomes the fifth member of Alabama’s 2015 signing class to transfer.

Blinn Sports Information Director Jake Gordon says Sheffield signed with the Buccaneers Wednesday afternoon.

Sheffield was granted his release from the Crimson Tide by Coach Nick Saban, Wednesday, with the stipulation he not transfer to another SEC school.

Saban said Tuesday afternoon, he hoped Sheffield would return to the Crimson Tide after missing practices, Monday and Tuesday.

Coming out of high school, Sheffield chose Alabama over Texas A&M, Ohio State, Florida State and USC.
