Buccaneers bury 14 threes in win over Panola
CARTHAGE, Texas – Since suffering a 35-point loss on Jan. 8, no team has been able to stop the Blinn women’s basketball team.
The Buccaneers, who pulled off an upset over No. 8 Tyler Junior College on Wednesday, defeated Panola 103-75 here Saturday afternoon. It’s the Bucs’ third straight 100-point game.
“Offensively we’re playing really well right now,” Blinn (15-3, 5-1) coach Jeff Jenkins said, whose team has won three straight.
Saturday, that offense was led by four players who scored double figures, and one that drained 14 3-pointers.
Blinn got contribution from sophomore Tierra Tucker, an A&M Consolidated graduate, who scored a team-high 24 points, including five 3-pointers. Tucker’s breakout game came after showing more consistency in recent weeks. In that Jan. 8 loss to No. 1-ranked Trinity Valley, Tucker led the Bucs with 19 points. In Blinn’s 106-102 upset over Tyler, she dropped 15 points, including seven assists.
“She’s such a good offensive player,” Jenkins said. “She can shoot really well, and she’s smart with the ball and gets other players in our offense involved, too.”
Though numbers weren’t readily available after the game, Jenkins said Tucker had a handful of assists against Panola.
The Fillies tried to keep Blinn out of the paint with their zone defense and neutralize the play of Adams, who scored 30 points against Tyler, and Katrina Hayden. But with the paint locked down, Blinn burned Panola from the outside.
“There are seasons we don’t make those––nights we don’t make those––and it was nice to be able to hit those tonight,” Jenkins said.
