BUCS ROLL TO HOME WIN, 91-68

Buccaneers use transition buckets to pull away from Victoria, 91-68

Blinn College men’s basketball turned a slim two-point lead at the half into a convincing 91-68 victory Nov. 18 in Brenham over Victoria College.

Transition baskets helped the Buccaneers jump out to a quick start in the final 20 minutes and that was enough for Blinn to improve their record to 5-1 in non-conference play.

Vicktor Arnick got the start against the fast-paced Victoria and turned in a 26-point performance to lead the Buccaneers while also grabbing 14 rebounds. Lionheart Leslie chipped in 17 points, Revey Norton finished with 14 and Ja’Cardo Hawkins tossed in 13 points.

Victoria kept the game close in the first half with their outside shooting although Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher felt that the made baskets were mostly contested.

“They (Victoria) was really making a lot of 3-pointers even though I felt like we were contesting those shots,” Schumacher said. “In the second half, I thought we got some easier buckets in transition.”

At one point in the second half, Blinn ballooned their lead up to 30 points and then nearly maintained that big lead in the 23-point victory. Coach Schumacher said that the Victoria game will be great preparation for the Bossier Parish, which is the conference opener for the Buccaneers.

Coach Schumacher also mentioned the performance of Cody Everitt as the guard finished with eight points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Blinn will open conference play at home against Bossier Parish Community College on Nov. 22 at 6 p.m.
