Buccaneers spoil two solid pitching performances in both games

BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College baseball put together two solid starting pitching performances but Alvin Community College was just a little bit better on the mound in both games and pulled out the sweep by the score of 4-0 and 2-0 over the Buccaneers at Leroy Dreyer Field in Brenham.

The pair of losses drops the overall record for Blinn to 18-22 and 8-18 in the Region XIV South Zone standings.

Blaine Suehs had one bumpy inning for Blinn in the opening game that was aided by a throwing error and Alvin took advantage by beating the Buccaneers 4-0 to open the doubleheader.

Suehs pitched 5 1-3 innings and gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out five. Dillon Turney came on in the sixth to get the final five outs of the game without giving up a run.

Trent Murphy, Jay Anderson, Colton Parrish, Walker Winders and Patrick King each had a single in the loss as the Buccaneers got runners in scoring position in two innings but could not convert that into runs. Blinn left six runners on base total and struck out nine times. Alvin scored all four runs in the second inning.

Nick Masarik came within two outs of pitching a complete game in allowing only two runs in over eight innings but the Blinn offense could not get a run across as Alvin completed the sweep with a 2-0 victory.
