BUCS’ SEASON ENDS WITH LOSS TO ALVIN, 10-4

Marshall Skinner accounted for all of Blinn’s runs with a grand slam

LUFKIN, Texas – No. 20 Blinn College baseball fell behind Alvin Community College early and the Buccaneers were unable to recover as they fell by the score of 10-4 in the consolation bracket of the NJCAA Region XIV Baseball Tournament Monday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.

With the loss, Blinn was eliminated from the postseason tournament and ends the season with a 37-17 overall record.

Marshall Skinner led the offense after driving in all four of Blinn’s runs with a grand slam, while Brandon Ashy manufactured two hits and scored one run. Reggie McCalister and Cameron Gibbons also produced one hit in the game each.

Ryan Day came on in relief and pitched 3 2/3 solid innings, only allowing one run and two hits, while striking out two.

The Buccaneers fell behind 4-0 in the second inning and trailed 6-0 in the third inning.

Skinner kept Blinn in the game after hitting a grand slam in the fourth inning for the Buccaneers to come within two runs of Alvin, 6-4. Blinn loaded the bases in the inning after McCalister and Gray Rodgers each drew walks and Ashy hit a single for Skinner to unload them with one swing.

Alvin pulled ahead 9-4 after scoring three runs in the fifth inning and added one more in the eighth inning for a 10-4 final.
