BUCS SPLIT ALVIN TWINBILL, SATURDAY

Warren’s two home runs guides Blinn past Alvin in nightcap, 11-6

Buccaneers dropped the first game but bounced back offensively in the second game to win

BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College baseball received a huge performance from Hillin Warren with two home runs and six RBIs to help the Buccaneers beat Alvin Community College 11-6 in the second game of the double-header Saturday afternoon at Leroy Dreyer Field in Brenham.

Alvin did get the better of Blinn in the first game 8-2 to split the pair of games on the day. With the split, the Blinn record moves to 10-9 overall and 3-5 in Region XIV play.

Alvin 8 – Blinn 2

Alvin jumped all over Blinn in the first game by scoring the first six runs and the Buccaneers were unable to overcome the early deficit and lost 8-2 to open the double-header.

Sam McElreath was able to bring in both runs for Blinn with a double but McElreath’s double was one of only two hits for Blinn. Colton Parrish was the other Buccaneer with a hit in the loss. Nathan Alexander had a rough start by allowing four home runs in the loss. Justin Penney came on in relief in the fifth and pitched two scoreless innings but the run support never came for Blinn.

Alvin scored two runs in the first and fourth innings and single runs in the second and third to take a 6-0 lead in the middle of the fourth inning. Blinn was able to get on the board as Jay Anderson got on base after getting hit by a pitch and Austen Swift walked. With two on, McElreath doubled to center to get the Buccaneers within 6-2.

Unfortunately, that would be the final runs scored for Blinn as Alvin tacked on two additional runs to take the 8-2 victory over Blinn.

Blinn 11 – Alvin 6

Blinn was able to get an offensive output that was lacking in the first game as the Buccaneers scored the first six runs and held on to earn the split in the pair of games with an 11-6 victory over Alvin.

Warren had himself a great performance in the second game with two home runs and six RBIs in the victory. George Pappas also nailed a home run while knocking in two runs in the win. Elijah MacNamee went 3 for 3 at the plate with a double and two singles while Anderson added a double and single for Blinn.

Blaine Suehs got the win on the start on the mound by pitching 5 2-3 innings without allowing a run and striking out seven. Beau O’Hara came on to get the final four outs with two of those by way of the strikeout.

Blinn got it all started in the third inning when Anderson doubled with two outs and Patrick King brought him in with a single to right for the first run of the game. The Buccaneers weren’t done as they later loaded the bases for Warren who quickly unloaded them with a grand slam to left for a 5-0 lead. Pappas added a solo home run in the fourth to boost the lead to 6-0.

Alvin did score twice in the fifth to get within 6-2. Warren struck again in the bottom of the fifth after MacNamee reached on a double and then Warren homered to left again for an 8-2 lead.

The Buccaneers looked for much-needed insurance runs by loading the bases with singles by Anderson and MacNamee and a walk by Swift. McElreath and Trent Murphy each got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in two runs then Pappas walked to give Blinn an 11-2 lead. Alvin did add three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth but Blinn would hold on for the five-run victory.

Blinn will travel to face McLennan Community College on Monday, March 7 at 2 p.m. for a non-conference game.
