Buccaneers sweep Monroe, 3-0, to open Tyler Junior College Invite

The Bucs extend win streak to seven games with victory

 TYLER, Texas – The Blinn College Buccaneers extended their win streak to seven straight as they downed Monroe College, 3-0, to open the Tyler Junior College Invite on Friday afternoon in Tyler.

Later, Tyler Junior College put an end to Blinn’s win streak as the Apaches dished the Buccaneers a 3-0 loss for Blinn to finish the first day of the tournament with a 1-1 record.

“We played well against Monroe and were hoping to use that momentum going into Tyler,” said Kalie Mader, Blinn head coach. “Tyler came out swinging and swinging well, but it was a good match for our defense to get better.”

Blinn 3 – Monroe 0

The Buccaneers kicked off the tournament with a 3-0 win over Monroe by the score of 27-25, 25-20, and 25-19.

Blinn and Monroe began the match with a hard fought first set in which the Buccaneers came out on top. The Buccaneers held the momentum into the second and third sets to claim their fourth sweep in the last six matches.

Tyler 3 – Blinn 0

Things made a quick turn as the Buccaneers were dealt their first loss in the last eight matches after Tyler came up with a 3-0 victory by the score of 19-25, 16-25, and 16-25.

The Buccaneers defeated Tyler, 3-0, earlier this season. After splitting the day, the Buccaneers hold a 15-4 overall record and 5-0 conference record.

On Saturday, Sept. 30, the Buccaneers will take on Hutchinson Community College at 11 a.m. and New Mexico Military Institute at 1 p.m. to conclude the Tyler Junior College Invite.
