The Buccaneers won by the score 25-22, 25-10 and 25-19 and improve their overall record to 15-16 overall while the Region XIV record stays at 4-2.

“We played pretty clean in set two,” said Kalie Mader, Blinn head coach. “I like that we had multiple players active and got some kills from our middle blockers.”

Paola Marie Salas Adorno led Blinn with 12 kills and earned seven digs. Kayla Valigura ended with eight kills and Danusia Sipa Borgeaud led with 17 digs. Alexis Kingston added 13 digs and Ally Lanik dished out 36 assists.

“We were able to put a lot into play that we practiced on this week,” Borgeaud said. “It is a good step to get this win and hopefully we can get our confidence completely back as a team.”

Blinn started out fast in the opening set and took a 9-5 lead after a kill from Amina Olajuwon but the entire first set did not come easily for the Buccaneers. Victoria fought back to take a 17-15 lead late in the set but Blinn was able to battle back and take the first set 25-22.

The second set was much better for the Buccaneers as they scored the first six points and extended that lead to 10-2 after a block from Kingston. Blinn kept the pressure on in the second and won 25-10 to take a 2-0 lead in sets.

The third set was a little more even but Blinn still jumped out to a 9-5 lead after a kill from Adorno. Victoria got within two at 14-12 but the Buccaneers were able to storm back and claim the set 25-19 after a kill from Eboni Mitchell for the sweep.

Blinn will get back into conference play with a match at home against Laredo Community College on Friday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m.

The volleyball game against Laredo will be the Adam’s Angels fundraiser match, with proceeds benefitting Adam’s Angels Ministry, a nonprofit organization founded by Donna and Tim Culliver of Brenham as a way to reach out to families that have been affected by childhood cancer. All monetary donations and fundraising proceeds raised from this game will allow Adam’s Angels to assist families with living expenses, fuel costs, medical parking and meal vouchers.
