BUDDY BENCH DEDICATED IN MEMORY OF ROBERT FLEMING
A large crowd was on hand for the dedication of a “Buddy Bench” and tree at Brenham Elementary School Tuesday afternoon. The bench and tree are in memory of Robert Fleming, who served as Principal at the school from 2013 to 2017. The bench was constructed by the CTE students at Brenham High School with donated materials and the funds for installing it and planting adjacent tree were given by the staff at Brenham Elementary. A “Buddy Bench” is a special place on the playground where a student can go if they are feeling lonely or left out and other students can recognize the situation and come over and talk with them. The highlight of the ceremony Tuesday was a balloon release by the 4th grade students at the school.
Robert Fleming is the principal I will remember above all others in my 35 years of teaching for his compassion and love for children. His faith directed his life and his courage to walk the path where hope always put others first. I am better for having known such a man as Robert Fleming.
