BURLESON CO. S.O. TO USE I.R.S. FUNDS FOR TRAINING

The Burleson County Sheriff's Office is hoping to use money from a 2009 drug bust to help train deputies.

Wednesday the office was presented with a check from the IRS for over $90,000.

Back in 2009 Burleson Co. deputies helped the IRS take down a drug ring that stretched from Burleson County to the Austin area--busting two facilities located in Burleson County.

Sheriff Dale Stroud says they will try and use the money to get a place to practice for firearms qualification.

Stroud says officers to be able to “…train with both firearms and other devices that they use that are non-lethal.”   Stroud says this would enable deputies to perform their job more effectively and better protect the public.

He says training places are scarce and now that they have this money they are looking for a location.
