BURLESON COUNTY COULD REAPPRAISE SOME PROPERTIES

Some residents of Burleson County could have their property reappraised due to damage from May’s flooding.

Chief Appraiser Kim Orr says due to the recent flooding and the governor’s recent disaster declaration, Burleson County, the City of Somerville, the Somerville School District and Burleson Co. Hospital District are officially requesting a re-appraisal of properties that were dasmaged.

Property owners whose property was damaged in the May 26 flood are encouraged to immediately contact the appraisal district at (979) 567-2318. Property owners should provide the appraisal district with the number that FEMA gave them when they registered for disaster assistance.  They are also asked to provide any documents and information related to the amount of damage/cost of repairs to improvements of business or personal property.

The appraisal district will reappraise anyone whose home or business was damaged in the flooding, at the property’s market value after the disaster.

Taxes will be based on the January 1, 2016 value and the value determined after the flood.

FEMA registration may be ending soon and the appraisal district will be performing its reappraisals in Burleson County in the coming weeks.

All properties that are reappraised will be sent a notice of the newly determined value and property owners will have the opportunity to meet with the appraisal district and protest to the Burleson County Appraisal Review Board.

For any additional information, contact the Burleson County Appraisal District at 111 E. Fawn St. in Caldwell, or by phone at (979) 567-2318.
