Burton ISD’s Board of Trustees will consider a new director for Burton’s Special Services Cooperative at next Monday’s meeting.

In addition to the director, the Board will look at diagnostician contracts for the cooperative.  The Board will also discuss employee complaints, and consider the duties and discipline of a public officer.

The Principal’s and Superintendent’s Reports will also be heard.  During the Consent Agenda, the Board will consider the approval of the Tax Collection, Revenue and Expenditures, and Quarterly Investment Reports.  Prior to Executive Session, the Board will also accept any resignations and new hires.

  1. The Director of the Burton special Services Cooperative was Mrs. Lindell. She served as Burton Elementary Principal for several years. When Giddings decided they no longer wanted to share services with Burton, Round Top and Dime Box ISD the three smaller schools were left to find new partners. When neighboring schools Brenham and Lexington refused to provide services, the three small districts were forced to go it alone.

The three districts had one year to organize. Mrs. Lindell was certified in Special Education, had experience as a Principal and had been very knowledgeable in budgeting. She was a unanimous choice to serve as the first Director of the Burton Special Services Coperative. Burton ISD provided an office to house files. Burton ISD would be the fiscal agent, meaning we handled the mixed federal and local district funds of Burton, Dime Box and Round Top ISD in an account to pay for materials, employees and services for all three districts. The Burton ISD Superintendent would do the hiring for the Cooperative, based on the recommendations of all three.

Over the past ten years Mrs. Lindell provided excellent stewardship in developing a staff and managing a budget. She was able to grow a fund balance to cover unexpected costs as they do occur due to the needs of students in all three districts.

I hope the Burton ISD appreciates her years of service to the district, as do Round Top and Dime Box ISD. It is Service and loyalty such as hers that no one misses until they leave. I for one would like to express my appreciation to Mrs. Lindell for her service, loyalty and professionalism she established as she served the best interests of the students in Burton ISD, Round Top ISD and Dime Box ISD. Enjoy your retirement!

  2. I don’t understand why the board meeting is being held in the admin building when there is an air conditioned cafeteria which the Boys and Girls Club use until 5.30pm.
