The Burton School Board named a finalist for the superintendent position at a special called meeting Tuesday evening.  The sole finalist is Edna Kennedy, the current superintendent of the Marion School District.  Marion ISD is a 4A district near San Antonio with 1400 students.  Ms. Kennedy explains her experience as a district superintendent:

Her husband David Kennedy is currently the superintendent of the Westhoff School District near Cuero.  They are both planning on relocating to Burton.  Edna Kennedy explains:

Edna Kennedy says she will now meet with the school board in Marion to ask to be released from her current contract.  There is a 21 day waiting period after a finalist is named before they can sign a contract.

The Burton School Board also voted to name Karen Steenken as the Interim Superintendent.  She is the current principal at Burton High School.  Board President Marcos Broesche said Steenken would serve as interim superintendent for 30 to 35 days beginning immediately.

The Burton School Board has interviewed a number of candidates for the superintendent’s position over the past few weeks.  The current superintendent, Jim Palmer, is retiring after 12 years with the Burton School District.

  1. I learned by reading the school board minutes the high school principal was hired to be the interm superintendent. She will receive an addition $400.00 per day. Are you kidding me????? Is the school board trying to keep her happy since she didn’t even get an interview for the superintendent job?? All I can do is shake my head.

    1. Please run for school board next time so you can solve all the problems!! (sarcastic tone implied)

  2. Well, I guess some people will never be satisfied. For “Burton Taxpayers” information, the school board asked ALL district employees to give input on what they were looking for in a new superintendent. Also, “Burton Taxpayer” was welcome to come give input at the regular school board meetings. I hope he/she did that or he/she has no reason to complain!!

    1. Enough already,

Then why were all the discussions about anything to do with the hiring and what the school board was looking for done in executive session? Executive session has become so easy to hide behind.

  3. Wow!!! The cat is out of the bag finally. I find it almost strange that the school board went through the whole process is secrecy. They must have really known what they were looking for and how to go about with out any input from the community.
