BURTON PANTHERS FACE LEAKEY IN PLAYOFF OPENER TONIGHT

The Burton Panthers kick off the 2016 post-season tonight when they face the Leakey Eagles at Johnson City.

It’s the Bi-District round of the Region IV/2A Division II playoffs.

The Panthers (9-1) finished District 13/2A play with a perfect 5-0 mark, while the Eagles (6-4) finished fourth in District 14/2A at 1-3.

Panthers Head Coach Jason Hodde says his team is feeling good headed into it playoff opener tonight…

The Panthers are out-scoring their opponents by an average of 47-to-17.

They’ve rushed for over 3000 yards in 10 games, led by Sophomore quarterback Caleb Harmel (1303 yds., 15 TD’s) and Senior tailback Jamon Bradley (1257 yds., 18 TD’s).

The Panthers’ leading receiver, De’monderick Winters (26 rec., 522 yds., 11 TD’s) has also been a force on special teams with four punt returns for touchdowns.

Defensively, the Panthers have been stingy, giving up just over 141 yards per game.

Hodde says this year’s team has been a lot of fun to work with…

 

Leakey started the season 4-0, but struggled in district play, pulling out a 46-28 win over LaPryor in their final game to earn a playoff berth.

Hodde says the Eagle run a wide-open, spread offense…
