BURTON SCHOOL BOARD GETS UPDATES ON STUDENT PROJECTS

The Burton School Board made quick work of a light agenda Monday evening.  The meeting began with a demonstration from some of the Gifted and Talented students from Burton Elementary.  They used their laptop computers and a small robot to explain their projects.  Trustees also got an update from two FFA members.  Holli Baker and Wesley Fehrle explained how the Burton High School FFA members have done in the fall competitions.

Trustees heard updates from the school Principals and the Superintendent.  Dr. Edna Kennedy reported that the Texas Education Agency recently gave the Burton District a perfect 100 score on its financial accountability report.  She also told the board members that Houston Area Food Bank has offered to supply a light meal for students after school through the Burton Boys and Girls Club.

Trustees also passed a Culture of Voting Resolution.  Districts across the state are using the resolution to encourage residents to vote and also to educate themselves about the candidates and the issues.

Before the meeting, trustees spent an hour and a half in a mandatory training session.  A representative from the TEA gave the board members an update on the recent Legislative session.

The next Burton School Board meeting is set for Tuesday, November 28th due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.
