BURTON SCHOOL BOND FORUM SET FOR THURSDAY

A public forum on a proposed bond issue for the Burton School District is set for Thursday night.

The group, Build a Better Burton School is hosting the forum Thursday evening at 6:30 at the Burton Volunteer Fire Department on FM 1697.

The meeting is the first in a series of public forums to discuss the proposed bond issue.

Burton ISD officials have been discussing a possible bond vote for additional classrooms at the high school, a new gymnasium and a new football field with a track.

Among the speakers are Burton Schools Superintendent Edna Kennedy, architect Tim Gescheidle and financial advisor Robert Traylor.

School officials will have to act fairly quickly in order to get the bond proposal before voters in November, when general elections will be held.

The amount of debt issuance that will be requested has not been finalized yet.

Officials with BABBS say three more community forums will be scheduled.
