BURTON TABLES WATER WELL DECISION

The Burton City Council has delayed action on construction of a new water well.

At their meeting last (Monday) night, council members were told by a consultant that a new well could run $250,000

Burton received a grant to construct their current well back in 2012.  However, a grant may not be available at this time.  City officials say a second well is vital to the city.

Officials estimate as much as a $7 a month increase to utility bills in order to build the well.

The council tabled any decision pending further discussion and study.

Also at their meeting, the council approved an amendment to the city dog ordinance to include dangerous canines and violation fees.

The council also approved paying just over $5,000 as their share of the county’s new emergency dispatch software.

The total cost of the system that includes the county, City of Brenham and Blinn College is just under $545,000.  The system is expected to be operational by September.
