CALDWELL I.S.D. RATIFICATION ELECTION TODAY

Residents in the Caldwell School District are going to the polls today (Saturday) to vote in a tax ratification election, which officials hope will bring the District more state funding.

Ballots are being cast at the Burleson County Courthouse today (Saturday) until 7 p.m. The only issue is the tax ratification election, which is a tax swap to restructure Caldwell I.S.D.’s tax rate. A vote for the issue would not raise the tax rate, but rather move money from the District’s Interest and Sinking rate to its Maintenance and Operations rate. This would result in Caldwell schools receiving an additional $413,000 in state funding.

Back in June, the Caldwell School Board set the tax rate at $1.12 for M&O, and 8.6 cents for I&S. If the tax ratification election passes today (Saturday), the I&S rate will go to zero, and the M&O rate will remain the same. The State would make up the difference. When early voting ended on Tuesday, 216 people had cast ballots.
