CAMERON POLICE FIND 2-YEAR OLDS ALONE ON MAJOR HIGHWAY

Cameron Police are investigating an incident of Child Endangerment that could have turned deadly.

Just after noon today (Wednesday), police were called to the 900 block of US-190/SH-36 where two, two-year old children were running down the highway.

According to witnesses traffic was dodging the unsupervised children, including an 18-wheeler which reportedly slammed on its brakes and missed the pair by less than a foot.

That area of the highway is considered a major truck artery, with an entrance to a large truck stop nearby.

Cameron police say it took officers over two hours to locate the children’s parents—who are expected to be charged with Child Endangerment later in the day.  Their identities have not yet been released.

Authorities say the two had been left unsupervised for nearly five hours prior to the incident on the highway.

The children have been removed from the home.

The case has been turned over to Child Protective Services.
