CANDIDATES ADDRESS THE PUBLIC

Candidates for Washington County’s three contested races in the November election made their cases Tuesday night at the KWHI Candidates Forum. Candidates for County Commissioner Precinct-2 and the Justice of the Peace races for Precincts 1 and 2 were on hand at the Brenham National Bank lobby. The candidates for County Commissioner, Republican incumbent Luther Hueske and Democrat challenger Magarette Boswell faced the most questions from the audience—covering money, roads and the sheriff’s office. The two were asked about what can be done to retain qualified sheriff’s deputies to the local office. Boswell says she believes Sheriff Otto Hanak is not being given the proper resources…

Hueske says he feels the county commissioners have been working hard with the sheriff’s office to alleviate the problem…

Also at the forum Tuesday night were Precinct-One J.P. candidates, incumbent Doug Zweiner and challenger Opelia Whiting-Howard and Precint-two Justice of the Peace Douglas Cone,  Cone’s challenger Duane Olney was not able to attend.
