CELL PHONE DISTRACTION CAUSES ACCIDENT

Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety say a 22-year old woman was distracted by her cell phone while she was driving on FM 50 near Highway 21 Thursday afternoon.

That’s why she ran off the road and into a wooded ditch.  All the other factors were favorable for good driving with bright sunshine, little wind, warming temperatures, and no rainfall.  The woman did not suffer any injuries.

  1. I am glad this woman did not suffer any injuries. She was fortunate; perhaps lucky.

I wish the State of Texas would ban the use of cell phones while driving. If someone needs to use the phone, they should pull over (off the road, in a parking lot, etc.) and use the phone. Or . . . better yet, make your phone calls before getting in a vehicle to drive.

While driving, I do not use the cell phone (out-going calls) and I do not answer the phone while driving. The majority of the time, while driving, I have the phone on ‘silent’ or turned off.

The use of a cell phone is a distraction while driving. Just my opinion!
