CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ENCOURAGES BLUE BELL COMMUNITY SUPPORT DAY MONDAY

The Washington County Chamber of Commerce is encouraging everyone to celebrate and demonstrate the community’s ongoing support by wearing Blue Bell shirts, caps and other logo items on Monday.

Blue Bell Ice Cream is scheduled to begin returning to store shelves after being removed from store shelves back in April due to listeria concerns.

The company began announcing its returning flavors on Monday.

  1. Good point, Ralph, Mac and Resident. No need to go public to sell shares, wasn’t necessary at the creation of the company many years ago. Food for thought, majority stockholders could have agreed to sell privately to any locals for cash. But then I wonder why other stockholders withheld support. Mr. Bass represents other investors also, and they were wise enough to protect their investment with oversight by receiving seats on the board. All those considerations aside, the end result is lots of folks will be working again, and even more will get their ice cream fix. Happy endings.

  2. I’m all in favor for community support for Blue Bell but it would have been even better if Blue Bell had taken the company public in order to raise funds needed for new equipment, repairs, cleanup, and start up rather than sell one third of the company to a multi-millionaire. Had it taken the company public, locals could have bought stock and really felt like supporting the company because they were part owners.

    1. Blue Bell asked their stockholders if they would be willing to give up some of their stocks in order to help the company stay afloat and were offered full repayment once they were doing good. The stockholders would not give up any of their shares so they had to look elsewhere for enough funds to help them out. Hopefully this is only a loan from Mr. Bass and that the company can pay him back and get back to only being Kruse/Family owned.

    2. The problem with taking it public is that thanks to some exaggerations in some media (local excluded) people outside of town would not want to invest in Blue Bell for fear they’d lose their investment. Also, it opens the door for shady folks wanting to find ways to affect the prices of said stock, potential voters meetings to demand changes that would harm the company instead of help (the more unethical folks you see in any stock), etc.

Additionally, doing some research, it would’ve required some extra paperwork and fees to go public, which the company didn’t need to do as it would further strap them for cash for a risk that I’m not sure many would take.

No, I too didn’t like that the creamery had to go the route it did to stay afloat (which to me is the most important aspect), but I just see more risk with them had they went public with the stock.
