CHAPPELL HILL HISTORICAL SOCIETY EXPERIENCES MINOR SMOKE DAMAGE

The Chappell Hill Historical Society’s Museum experienced minor smoke damage this (Friday) morning due to an issue with an HVAC unit as the Museum opened for business.

“Damage is minor and we are fortunate that this occurred while our staff was opening the Museum for the day versus in the middle of the night,” stated Joel Romo, President of the Chappell Hill Historical Society.

“Our staff identified a burning smell and then inspected the Museum only to find heavy smoke coming from one of our HVAC units in the Auditorium.  We are extremely grateful to the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Brenham Fire Department, Washington County EMS and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department for their prompt response and ensuring the incident was contained promptly.  Washington County is fortunate to have such dedicated public servants as those that assisted the Chappell Hill Historical Society today,” concluded Romo.

The Museum and Gift Shop are housed in the last public school building of the Chappell Hill I.S.D. The red brick structure is located on the site of the Chappell Hill Female College. Built in 1927, it served as only one of the schools in the area until 1965. Exhibits of photos, documents and artifacts give a glimpse of the town from its beginnings in 1847 to the present day.
