CHAPPELL HILL HISTORICAL SOCIETY GETS $25,000 GRANT TO PRESERVE MUSEUM

The Chappell Hill Historical Society has received a $25,000 community development grant from the Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative and the Lower Colorado River Authority.  This money will be used to upgrade the Chappell Hill Museum’s heating and air conditioning system and to replace the windows.

Chappell Hill Historical Society President John Durrenburger says the Museum is housed in an old school and as old schools go, they need some fixing up, especially to preserve the Museum’s many historical documents and artifacts.

Wil Holford of the Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative says the Museum houses the Swearingen Collection of original painting and the Nath an Judy Winfield Collection of records, letters and rare books.  Holford says this is worth preserving.

The grant was supported by State Senator Glen Hegar, State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst and Washington County Judge John Brieden, Sheriff Otto Hanak and County Commissioner Luther Hueske.

The community development grant is one of a number of grants recently awarded through the LCRA Community Development Partnership program.  The program is to give back to the communities it serves.  The Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is one of the LCRA’s wholesale customers.
