CHAPPELL HILL TRACK HEARING SET FOR MAY 27
A hearing on the proposed Chappell Hill Race Track has been rescheduled for late May.
A group of Chappell Hill landowners filed a civil suit in late January seeking a permanent injunction to stop the race track from being built, saying it would devalue their property.
That hearing had been scheduled for April 16th, but was indefinitely delayed. It has been rescheduled in 21st District Court for Wednesday, May 27th at 10:00 a.m.
The case will be heard by retired district judge J.D. Langley of Brazos County.
The case has been brought by a number of local property owner including: Helen and Chad Phillips, Charles and Danielle Fridge, OCF Cattle Company owned by Matt and Christi Strock, Ron and Lynn Holder, and J.T. Davis, owner of Dingo Ranch.
The proposed site is on 450 acres of the Mel Acres Ranch just south of US 290 in Chappell Hill.
R.G. – Nicely stated and I agree.
If I understand this right, the gentleman that is buying the 450 acres (Tentatively) He is free to do as he wishes, no matter who likes it and who doesn’t. It’s odd how many people didn’t mind the noise from all the drilling rigs back in the 90’s, but they were getting paid, big time. I know, I drilled many a well in that area myself. So, this particular race track will be running cars with quite mufflered exaust systems, not like NasCar’s stock cars. IMHO this is an excellent business adventure for all of Washington County. My oh my how the money will rain down! Think of the tax base, your home values will not decrease, but may however increase. Change and adverse economics is good for commerce! C’mon, turn that frown upside down!! (:>/
Yes r.g. I agree as well, but if you’ve been in this area that long than you know how things work. If there’s no DIRECT monetary incentives up front for the “elite” then they’ll do everything they can to either garner favor or squash the whole thing. I don’t care about racing one bit, but I see this as an opportunity to draw more commerce. Do these people have any idea how far people travel nit only to compete but just to watch. My son goes with his friends all over Texas, and I friend I work with competes all over the United States. It’s a win in my eyes.
mr. scott: Ah! A voice of reason. I’m in total agreement with you guys. I quite understand why the people in the immediate vicinity don’t want it there. To some, it’s an imposition, to other’s a step into the future. The fact remains, when and if the gentleman buys the land, it’s his to do as he wishes and no one regardless of who they are can stop him. I wouldn’t take kindly to anyone who tried telling me what I could and couldn’t do with my land. As long as what ever facilities are/are not built meet code, game over. As far as people driving to see, and participate in the events, it equates into REVENUE!! It’s all about progress and evolution. The track won’t be an eyesore and it’s not going to be loud like everyone thinks b/c as I stated before, the cars will have mufflers in the exaust system, unlike NasCar. It’s all good, untill it ain’t all good anymore….THEN it’s still all good!
