CITY ASK FOR HELP IN GETTING ANSWERS FROM FEMA

Officials with the city of Brenham say they will seek federal help as they continue their quest for funds to repair damage caused by the flooding that occurred over a year and a half ago.

City staff has sent a letter to U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, in which they say the city has sent more than 1,000 emails, many repeating the same information several times.

Widespread flooding caused extensive damage to the city, resulting in estimated repairs of over $2.6 million.

City staff has identified more than 44 areas where repairs are needed and has asked FEMA for funding, which would provide up to 75 percent of the costs to repair projects that are eligible for reimbursement.

City Manager Terry Roberts said the city is increasingly frustrated with the agency.

Roberts says the city has had to make decisions not knowing if any of the work would be eligible for FEMA Public Assistance funding.

The letter was in response to a request by McCaul’s staff for details.

  1. Congressman McCaul has a district office in Austin, Texas. That is just eighty miles down the road. I can’t help to think that the city of Brenham staff of management and city engineer have not seen the benifit to just go to Congressman McCaul’s office? To make a visit? To have probably combined it with another trip? Especially, when a couple of million dollars of tax payer money is on the line? Please try to explain before my property taxes go up again; that means, you will have to move faster, than you have been.

    1. Congressman McCaul also has a district office in Brenham, no trip needed, just drive across town.

  2. Doesn’t surprise me this happened. FEMA are nothing but Government owned looters! Haiti earthquake, hurricane Sandy,Hurricane Katrina,Hurricane Harvey. Nothing but empty promises and some FEMA trailers with formaldehyde.
