CITY COUNCIL APPROVES PURCHASE OF BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL FIELD CONDITIONERS

The Brenham City Council approved the purchase of Masterseal Infield Conditioner and Mix for several baseball and softball fields in the city during their Thursday meeting.

This will enable them to drain and absorb water better,  according to the City of Brenham Director of Public Works Dane Ray, it will not be “turf but is an infield turface.  Basically a new dirt material replacing the red clay mix that we currently have on our fields.”

The product cost about $18 per ton, and is mixed with a soil enhancement material to provide a loose infield playing surface. The process cost around $2700-$2800 for a softball fields such as Stark or Clayton fields.

The BCDC has approved $100,000 for the upgrade, and should conclude by the end of December.

Also approved was the purchase of a residential garbage truck using a Buy Board Contract for the City of Brenham’s Sanitation Department, and approved the purchase of water play features for the BlueBell Aquatic Center Leisure pool, also using a BuyBoard Contract.

The 2016, 7400 2x4 new garbage truck will replace a 1998 residential garbage truck that has been with the city for seventeen years. Staff budgeted $165,000 for this new truck. The amount to be paid will be $174,510 which is $9,510 over the budgeted amount, due to the purchase of extended warranties that would take care of the repairs to the truck at a later date.

The new Water Play Features will cost approximately $89,950 and will consist of a Mystical Super Splash and Wet Play Structure. The BCDC grant the funding request at the June 4, 2015 meeting. These purchases will replace two outdoor water features in the Leisure Pool area.
