CITY COUNCIL APPROVES SPECIAL USE PERMITS

Brenham City Council members approved two zoning special use permits at their meeting today (Thursday).  Redeemer Church Brenham requested a special use permit for their property at 2111 South Blue Bell Road.  They recently purchased Brenham Christian Academy at that location and plan to continue operating the school as well as holding Sunday church services there.  The property is currently zoned Single Family Residential and the permit will allow for Church and Related Auxiliary Uses.

Also approved, but with some discussion, is a special use permit for an Auto Detail Shop at 1414 West Main Street.  On Site Clean Cars is requesting to operate from that location.  Council person Susan Cantey question what the business would look like to a person driving into the city from that direction.  Council approved the permit with the provision that wording would be added to it requiring the business to look orderly.

In other action, the council approved an interlocal agreement with Washington County for the acquisition and maintenance of public safety computer hardware and software.  Local law enforcement as well as EMS and dispatch are switching to the new system to integrate the various agencies with the same software.    The new system is expected to go on line in April of next year.

Public Utilities Director Lowell Ogle Jr. (R) is recognized by Mayor Milton Tate for receiving the Texas Public Power Association's 2017 Gary Brown City Service Award.
Christopher Bugaj (R) is recognized for 10 years of service to the city.
William Herrin (R) was recognized for 15 years of service to the Street Department.
Brenham Police Chief Craig Goodman (L) recognizes Lloyd Powell Jr. for 20 years of service to the police department.

  1. What a joke since the Market street entry into downtown now looks like a slum, near the tracks old cars and car parts at the old gas station welcomes visitors to downtown. First impressions are everything and this site does not make a very good one.

  2. The car detail place has been operating from that location for years! I guess now they need a special permit?
