CITY COUNCIL APPROVES STORM REPAIR AGREEMENTS

The Brenham City Council approved four engineering services agreements for storm repairs to the city’s infrastructure during their meeting today (Thursday).

The repairs are part of an ongoing process of correcting damage caused by widespread flooding last spring.

Three professional services agreements were approved with O’malley Strand Associates: $287,356 for repairs to various city infrastructure improvements at multiple locations, $52,300 for repairs to the Munz Lift Station, and $34,150 repairs to the Lake Line at Big Sandy Creek.

One service agreement was approved with Gunda Corporation LLC for $295,841 for repairs to various city infrastructure improvements at multiple locations.

Also during the meeting, the May 6th Brenham City Council election was officially cancelled since the candidates who filed for positions this year were unopposed.

The Brenham City Council approved the cancellation and declared each unopposed candidate elected to office during the meeting. The new council members are: Position Five-At Large Councilman Charlie Pyle and Position Six-At Large Councilwoman Susan Cantey.

Ward-One Brenham City Councilman Keith Herring and Ward Three Councilman Andrew Ebel will both serve another term in their positions. All four will begin serving their new terms on the council during the third week of May.

In other business, a second public hearing was held on the proposed annexation of approximately 87 acres of land along the Highway 36 loop- from Dixie Road to near the U.S. 290 cloverleaf.  Stylecraft Builders filed a petition to be voluntarily annexed into the city. Representatives from Stylecraft have said the development would include approximately 300 single-family homes ranging from $170,000 to $240,000.

The council also:

  • Rejected a bid received for fabrication and installation of wayfinding signage. Purchasing Supervisor Sara Parker says bad weather caused the city to receive just one bid for the project.
  • Accepted the audit from Seidel Schroeder for Fiscal Year 2016
  • Approved the acceptance the 2016 audit of the Washington County Appraisal District by Seidel Schroeder
  • Approved an addendum to the contract with towing companies to participate in the city’s rotation log for non-consent tows
  • Approved a noise variance request from Jesus Christ is the Answer Church for a gathering on March 24th at Fireman’s Park
