CITY COUNCIL APPROVES TWO RECOATING PROJECTS

Water Tank on South Austin St.

The Brenham City Council approved two coating projects for the City Water department.  Council approved a $543,000 bid from Gulf States Protective Coatings for recoating of various tanks at the water treatment plant.  Public Utilities Director Lowell Ogle told council that the large tank on South Austin Street would be repainted, and that the lettering and bluebonnets would also be repainted on the outside.

Council also approved a $346,000 bid for the recoating of the Church Street Water Tower.  The project is part of the Texas Community Development Block Grant Program.  Ogle told council that the silver water tower would likely be repainted white and that he would bring drawings of proposed logos for the outside at a later date.  Both recoating projects are expected to be completed over the winter when water usage is at its lowest.

In other action, the council approved the budget for the Washington County Appraisal District.  The budget is increased by 2.4 percent over last years, due mostly from salary increases.  Council also increase the rate tariff for commercial customers of the Transfer Station.  They will now be charged $45.50 per ton for in city compacted trash and $48.50 for out of city trash.  The increase is to cover a price increase by Clean Harbors who operated the landfill in Altair.
