CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSES ROAD AND TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS

The city of Brenham has a problem that most cities would like to have.  City Public Works Director Dane Rau told today’s (Thursday’s) meeting of the city council that after the Chappell Hill extension project is complete, the city expects to have $900,000 of the $1.85 million in bonds to complete other transportation projects.

Rau spoke during a workshop session of the council, saying they could extend Cantey Street from a cul de sac to the 290 feeder road, connect Day Street to Stone,  widen Market and Stone Streets, and make improvements to Park, Martin Luther King and Academy Streets. Rau said another possible project would be a widening of Chappell Hill Street from Ralston Creek to Stone.

He said the city needed to prioritize the projects.

The Chappell Hill extension will connect Chappell Hill to Stringer Street, which would then connect to the overpass on highway 290.  The city issued $1.85 million in bonds for this project in 2012.
