CITY COUNCIL TO CONTINUE DISCUSSIONS OVER CITY MANAGER

The Brenham City Council will spend some more time discussing the final five candidates for City Manager during their meeting this Thursday.

After interviewing each of the five finalists last week, the Brenham City Council has said it could take another week or two before naming a new City Manager.  The Council will go into executive session during Thursday’s 1 o’clock meeting to continue their evaluations.

During the work session of the meeting, City Public Works Director Dane Rau will go over some new ideas for the Annual Spring Clean Up Event at the Citizen’s Collection Station.  Last week Rau told the Washington County Commissioners that the event has become so popular that it takes six weeks for the Collection Station to recover.

During Thursday’s regular session, council members will discuss an amendment to the lease agreement with filmmaker Roy Burger, who is leasing 109 acres of the old City Landfill property.  Burger said recently that he still intends to make the movie based on the book, “The Burning of Brenham”.

Also on the agenda Thursday is the purchase of a discharge spreader truck for the City’s water treatment plant, an equipment financing proposal with Bank of Brenham, a ground space lease agreement with John Schaer III for hangar space at the Brenham Municipal Airport, and a noise variance request from St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for their November 19th fundraiser.

The Brenham City Council will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday on the second floor of the Brenham City Hall.

  1. The 5 candidates for City Manager are really weak. We have 5 ACM and none of them made the final cut??

What does say about them ??

  2. It is a shame that, “just because” it takes a while to, “clean up” after the big event that now you want to short change the taxpayer and limit the cleanup amount; instead of being proud of the efforts of the citizens that are keeping this county clean. A lot of times, it is volunteers that are hauling off things for those that need help. If you want to set limitations now. Then, start off with those working at the municipal building. That is where we need a weight limit (headcount) on mgmt. and directors.

  3. Newsflash- Council, citizens obviously expect you to find more acceptable candidates. Two weeks will not change this unacceptable situation. Given the responses on the previous press release on this subject, you can no longer think citizens will accept business as usual in city government. Find the courage to admit this folly of a city manager search, and tell us you are starting over, please.

    1. My optimism completely faded when others were considered and Mr. Ogle with all of his hands on experience was again overlooked. Those that start at the bottom and work their way to the top should be noticed. He is what I would call a true grinder.

      1. Mr. Ogle is 100% more qualified than those other 4 out of area/state applicants; just compare with stability, dedication, hands on experience, etc, etc.
