CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS JUDGE AND PROSECUTOR APOINTEES

The Brenham City Council is expected to appoint a Presiding Judge and a City Prosecutor for the City Municipal Court when they meet Thursday afternoon.

The Council members will discuss both appointments during executive session.

The Municipal Court Judge post became vacant with the sudden death of Judge Julian Weisler in January.

The City Prosecutor position opened up when Bill Kendall was elected Precinct-Four Justice of the Peace last year.

Following the closed-door discussion, the council is expected to vote on the appointments in open session.  The appointments would last until the terms expire at the end of 2016.

The council could also possibly act on bids for construction of a pet adoption center and renovations to the Nancy Carol Roberts Library.

City officials have been in negotiations with the low bidder for the facility since February, when bids came in significantly above the two-million dollars earmarked for the project.

Last week the city opened the bids for the library renovations.  The low bidder was Collier Construction, whose bid was $88,000 above the three-million dollars allocated for the project.

The council is also expected to grant a noise variance for Maifest activities, May first, second and third at Firemen’s Park.

The Brenham City Council meets Thursday afternoon at 1:00 in the council chambers on the second floor of city hall on West Vulcan.
