CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS THE MUSEUM, TODAY

The Brenham City Council will consider what to do about the problems at the Brenham Heritage Museum when they meet this afternoon.

The museum was ruled unsafe by the city two weeks ago, after electrical problems were found.  The museum has been closed to the public after flood waters damaged the basement in May of 2016.

The building is now completely unoccupied until repairs can be made.

At the last city council meeting, City Manager Terry Roberts said the city was willing to look at ways to help with the needed repairs.

A public hearing on the proposed increase the property tax rate is scheduled during today’s City Council meeting.

The council raised the proposed tax rate one cent to $0.517 per $100 valuation during their meeting two weeks ago.  Property values in the city increased this year by an average of 6 percent.  With the rate increase, property owners inside the city would see a 7 percent increase in their taxes.

Also on today’s agenda, the council will consider taking emergency action to adopt construction standards in regards to a new law that will allow cellular phone providers to build in the city’s right of way.  The law give cities limited control over what may be added to light and power poles

The City Council meets this afternoon at 1:00 on the second floor of City Hall.
