CITY COUNCIL TO TALK GRANTS FOR SHELTER
The Brenham City Council will consider applications for a trio of grants, which would help fund a new animal shelter and adoption facility, when the council meets this afternoon.
The council will discuss a pre-application to the U.S. Department of Agriculture through its Rural Development Community Facilities Loan and Grants Program.
A pre-application must be submitted first. If that is approved, a formal application can be made.
Police Chief Rex Phelps says the city can ask for up to $250,000.
The city has budgeted $1-million to build a new animal shelter, with the remaining $1-million in funds to come from private donations.
The council will also discuss applications for $4,000 grants from the Mason Foundation to help pay for design of the new shelter and to the Meacham Foundation to help with construction costs.
The council will meet at 1 p.m. in City Hall, 200 W. Vulcan St.
