CITY HEARS PLAN FOR 290 FEEDER EXTENSION

City engineer Grant Lishka told the Brenham City Council Thursday that a preliminary layout of potential lots in the old railroad right-of-way along Old Mill Creek Rd., could be best served by a extension of the Highway 290 frontage road from Old Mill Creek Rd. to West Main.

Back in April, city staff hired an surveyor to layout developable lots within the old railroad right-of-way.

Lishka says that while the staff believes a straight connection between Old Mill Creek Rd. and West Main is necessary, they’d like to see an alternative to Dixie Street.

Lishka also informed the council during today’s (Thursday’s) workshop session that a main issue in the project would be the potential cost to the city.  Lishka told the council that TXDot has indicated that funding would likely not be available for the project.

City council member Danny Goss said he felt the city would get no benefit from such a move.  Fellow councilman Keith Herring countered that this could be of vital importance in the future.

Lishka addressed the council in workshop session and the item required no action by the council.

Help local people who have business on that side of town to avoid entering highway lanes to keep from getting run over by the idiots passing through brenham at 10-20mph over speed limits
