CO. COMMISSIONERS TO DISCUSS TOWER REPAIR

The Washington County Commissioners will discuss the repair of the communications tower on Longwood Drive during their meeting on Tuesday.

The tower, which is used by the city of Brenham and Washington County, has been struck by lightning twice in the last three years. Flooding last spring also caused damage to the generator.

While insurance claims have helped with the repairs, the commissioners held a workshop session with city officials last Tuesday to discuss preventative measures.

The cost of the proposed preventative project would be more than $94,000. Brenham Assistant City Manager Ryan Rapelye told the commissioners the city is looking for an inter-local agreement to split the costs for the repairs and maintenance.

The commissioners will also:

  • Discuss the acceptance of a public assistance sub-grant from the Texas Division of Emergency Management for road damages from the May 2016 storm
  • Consider approving an order authorizing the sale of fireworks for the Memorial Day period (May 24th to May 29th)
  • Discuss the County Clerk using archive funds to preserve birth record books
  • Discuss the approval of a resolution authorizing application for grant funds under the Homeland Security Grant Program
  • Consider the final plat for the Hoppers Lane Subdivision of HWY 290 in Precinct 3
  • Proclaim April as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month in Washington County
