COMMISSIONERS APPROVED 2016 JOINT PRIMARY ELECTION RESOLUTION

The Washington County Commissioners approved a Joint Resolution granting the Washington County Election Administrator/County Clerk the authority to contract with the Washington County Republican and Democratic Party for a Joint Primary Election in 2016 when they met at their meeting Tuesday morning.

County Clerk Beth Rothermel told those in attendance that she approached both parties with the idea of a Joint Primary, and both immediately approved of the idea. The Joint Primary, according to Rothermel, would save the county money by cutting down on resources that would need to be used for separate primaries, including the payroll of staffing that would be needed for the job, and would allow for sharing of the election e-books. Rothermel thanked both parties for their cooperation in making the upcoming elections easier for everyone.

The Commissioners also approved Shawn Richards to the Washington County Child Welfare Board. County Attorney Renee Mueller noted that Richards is an excellent choice since she is nearing retirement and would be able to devote herself full time to the Board, and that she has years of experience in this area.

Also award was a bid to Geo Southern for the lease of 1.293 acres of land off of FM 1948 in Washington County near Burton, for the purpose of oil and gas development.

Back on November 17, this item had been tabled due to only one bid being received, and that was from Geo Southern. The commissioners had decided at that time that since the county attorney had not yet reviewed the contract and approved it, the motion to approve the bid was tabled until that time.

The commissioners also approved Accounts Payable and the Fairgrounds Management Contracts.
