COMMISSIONERS HAVE GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT DR. YOFFE

Each of the County Commissioners had good things to say about Dr. Stuart Yoffe as they accepted his resignation letter this (Tuesday) morning.  Dr. Yoffe is retiring as the Medical Director at the Washington County Jail after almost 20 years in that position.  County Judge John Brieden said that after discussions with Yoffe, he agreed to stay on until a replacement is found.  Yoffe submitted his resignation December 17th.  He has agreed to stay on until January 31st or until a replacement takes over the position.  Commissioner Joy Fuchs said she understood that Yoffe was ready for retirement:

Longtime Commissioners Court observer Bill Neinast said that Dr. Yoffe set the standard for a jail physician and that other counties looked at his work for their own jails.  Commissioner Fuchs stated that several local physicians have expressed interest in taking on the position and they are working on the details.

In other action, Commissioners approved a new contract with EMS Management and Consultants for Billing Services for Washington County EMS.  EMS Director Kevin Deramus said that the renegotiated contract calls for the number of terminals to go from 7 to 10 but that the company’s commission stays the same at 4.25 percent.

Another contract dealing with EMS was tabled due to the County Attorney not having time to review it yet.  That contract is with the Capital Area Trauma Regional Advisory Council for funding to meet CDC requirements.
