COMMISSIONERS TABLE DETENTION CONTROL SYSTEM BID AWARD

The Washington County Commissioners decided to table awarding the bid for a new Detention Control System for the jail.  They wanted to allow time for the 4 bidding companies to quote similar systems.  Of the two lowest bids to come in, one included camera views of entry points and one did not.  The Detention Control System currently in use at the jail dates back to the 1990’s and has become unreliable.

In other action, commissioners approved a Supplemental Easement and Right-of-Way agreement with American Electric Power.  The agreement covers a portion of the county owned school land in Tom Green County.  The easement replaces one that has been in effect since the 1930s.

Commissioners also heard the monthly reports from several county departments.  Emergency Dispatch received the highest number of calls for the year last month.  They received 6615 calls for service during July.  Washington County EMS also had their highest number of responses for the year with 807.  County Judge John Brieden praised the work of both teams noting that the survival rate for heart attack victims nationwide was only 48 percent, but in Washington County the survival rate is 88 percent.

During the IT Department report, it was noted that the body cameras were in for the Sheriff’s office and that camera use training for the deputies was being scheduled.

  1. Were there not clear specifications issued for the system they wanted? Bids should be correct when turned in and you are not given a second chance to resubmit. That is the bidding system.
