COMMUNITY PAYS TRIBUTE TO FALLEN LAW ENFORCEMENT

Community members gathered at the Washington County Courthouse today (Friday) to pay tribute to fallen law enforcement officers.

Chief Deputy Jay Petrash

Washington County Chief Deputy Jay Petrash spoke about honoring the men and women of law enforcement who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our communities.

The ceremony was especially poignant as 118 officers died in the line of duty in 2016, a nearly 40 percent increase from 2015. Last year also had the highest number of ambush-style shootings of police in more than two decades.

Members of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Constables, and Brenham Police Department led the ceremony.

The memorial brings to a close “Police Week”, which was observed nationwide.
