COMMUNITY WEIGHS IN ON HENDERSON PARK RENOVATION

Community members gathered at Henderson Park on Wednesday to give their input about the renovation of the park.

Citizens suggested a number of improvements to the park including more playground equipment, larger barbeque pits, covered basketball courts, and enhancements to the baseball and softball fields.

Community members also voiced a desire for more accessible trails and walkways to connect each of these amenities.

“The Henderson Park public meeting was very well attended and a lot of ideas came from the citizens, park users, and the city of Brenham Parks and Recreation Board” said Dane Rau, Director of Public Works.

Rau said another important issue to community members was the “connectivity” of the city’s parks.

Henderson Park is directly across the street from Fireman’s Park. Citizens voiced concern about children in Henderson Park having to cross North Park Street to use the playground at Fireman’s Park.

Rau says they will work with O’Malley-Strand and Associates to create a master plan for the park.

“We will share this master plan with the Brenham Community Development Corporation along with the Brenham City Council” says Rau.  “In July we should know if funding will allow for amenities to be added or if more time is needed, so funding can become available.”
