CONGRESSMAN MCCAUL SAYS SHINSEKI RESIGNATION AN OPPORTUNITY FOR REFORM

District 10 U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul called today’s (Friday’s) resignation of Veterans Affairs Secretary  Eric Shinseki a chance to ‘move forward under new leadership.’

McCaul, who represents Brenham and Washington County in the House of Representatives, is also the Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

McCaul hoped the new leadership will correct the ‘egregious mistakes’ the Veteran’s Administration has made..  He said those responsible for the recent VA scandal need to be held accountable.

McCaul went on to say this is an opportunity to make needed reforms to the way we treat the needs of veterans.

The Congressman thinks veterans ought to be able to see their personal doctors and use local hospitals and get reimbursed by the Veterans Administration.  This, he says is one of many possible reforms.

The Veteran’s Administration has come under fire in recent weeks for lengthy delays for veterans seeking medical appointments to VA Hospitals. The problem was compounded when two different lists were made to make it look as if the veterans were being seen on a more timely manner.
