COUNCIL TO LOOK AT CITY MANAGER APPLICATIONS THURSDAY

Members of Brenham’s City Council will be taking a close look at the City Manager’s applications Thursday in executive session. Terry Roberts has served 17 years in that position and is retiring January 31st.   Strategic Government Resources has been conducting the search for Roberts’ successor and will be reviewing the applications with councilmembers.  Also in executive session, the council will consider offering financial or other incentives to a new shopping center that is looking to locate in Brenham.

In open session, the council will hear a presentation on the emergency street repairs taking place at three locations in the city.  City crews are currently working on at Burleson and Jefferson Street crossings of Higgins Branch and the Barbee Street crossing of Hog Branch.   The roadway at those locations experienced damage due to the flooding from Hurricane Harvey.

Council is also expected to approve the second reading of both the budget and the tax rate for the City of Brenham.  Funding for the $62 million budget will include a 1 cent increase in city property taxes.  With the increase in property valuations, residents should see a 7 percent increase in their city property taxes.

Councilmembers will also consider a number of agreements with the city Thursday.  They will consider renewing the insurance agreement with the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool.  They will also consider renewing the Group Health Plan with the Texas Municipal League.  They are also expected to act on an amendment to the current agreement for work with the Department of Aging and Disability Services.  They will also look at terminating a software licensing and services agreement for Public Safety Computer Software.  That software is used by multiple law enforcement agencies is currently being replaced.

Councilmembers will also consider two noise variance requests: One is for the Texas Arts and Music Festival taking place Saturday October 21st in Downtown Brenham.  The other is for a wedding and reception at a private residence on Saturday, October 28th.  That request is for a residence at 600 East Tom Green Street.

City Council will be meeting Thursday at 1:00 PM on the second floor of City Hall.
