COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPROVE 2017 BUDGET

The Washington County Commissioners court approved the 2017 budget during their meeting today (Tuesday).

The budget will raise more total property taxes than last year’s budget by $74,485. The new property tax rate will be .6 cents more than last year’s rate. A public hearing on the 2017 budget was held, with no members of the public making any comments.

The County Commissioners Court also heard a monthly report from Washington County 911. In July of this year, 78- percent of calls to dispatch time were under 60 seconds. In August, that number improved to 80- percent. The improvement is due largely to a switch in dispatch programming. County Commissioner, Kirk Hanath, says even the smallest improvement is important:

The County Commissioners also heard monthly reports from the Sheriff's Office, Washington County Information Technology, EMS, and the Veteran Service Officers.
