At this morning’s County Commissioners meeting, the commissioners approved a grant award agreement with Tempur Sealy International.

Clint Colby, Project Manager for the Brenham Economic Development Foundation, explained that if Temper Sealy retains its current 125 jobs and adds at least 75 more jobs and retains them for 5 years, the grant would pay $500 per job capped at $40,000.  The same grant has already been approved by the EDF and by the city through the Brenham Community Development Corporation.  If Tempur Sealy completes the requirements, each of the three government bodies would pay a maximum of $40,000.

The one dissenting vote on the grant was from Precinct 3 commissioner Kirk Hanath who urged caution on the matter:

In other action, commissioners approved a service agreement for a centralized law enforcement data interoperability network.  This system would allow any county employee to have the app on their smartphone, laptop or computer, that when activated, would utilize GPS to notify the 5 closest law enforcement officers of their location and would also notify the dispatch center.  Sheriff Otto Hanak thanked the commissioners for approving this web based system and commented that the old hardware based panic buttons that the county uses had many limitations.

One other item on the agenda that generated some discussion was the presentation of a plat for the Spring Creek Estates Subdivision on Spring Creek Road.  Since the proposed plat showed that the subdivision would be a 2000 foot long cul-de-sac off of Spring Creek Road, there was some questions on how the subdivision road would be maintained since it would not be a county road.
