COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APROVE GRANT FOR RESCUE BOAT

County Commissioners had a short meeting this (Tuesday) morning.  Commissioner Kirk Hanath led the meeting due to County Judge John Brieden attending an American Legion Conference.

Commissioners approved a 75 percent grant from LCRA for the purchase of a new rescue boat.  EMS Director Kevin Deramus said that the boat they are replacing has been in use since 2008 and the transom can no longer be certified.  He explained that the boat had been deployed 17 times and had performed 243 rescues.  It will be retained by the department and used for training.

Commissioners also approved the purchase of bonds to cover the County Judge, the Court-at-Law Judge, County Engineer and a Reserve Deputy Sheriff.  The recent session of the State Legislature raised the amount of the required bonds.  Commissioner Hanath explains:

The cost of the required bonds went from $178 last year to $1240 this year.
