COUNTY COMMISSIONERS EXPAND WORKERS COMPENSATION COVERAGE

The Washington County Commissioners Court approved a resolution to expand optional workers compensation coverage for its volunteers during their meeting today (Tuesday).

Judge John Brieden says the resolution will now include chaplains that work in the Washington County Jail:

The commissioners also approved a request to allow the family of Bob Searle to purchase his duty-issued fire arm at the same cost of the county’s purchasing price. Searle, a Deputy with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department for 20 years, passed away on December 3, 2016 at the age of 65.

Several of the commissioners commended Searle’s work in Washington County including Kirk Hanath:

Don Koester, who was sworn in on Sunday as the newest member of the court, said he knew Searle from church and his passing was “a great loss to the community”.

In other business, the commissioners approved: pending fairgrounds management rental contracts, accounts payable, and budget line item transfers. The commissioners also approved two requests for platting variances for subdivisions. The first request is at Old Chappell Hill Road and the other request pertains to Trackside Road.
